I’ve hinted that The Heart of the Home went through a lot of rewriting. Some was to do with fact – adding a detail, or making sure I had it exactly right – and some with formatting, such as when that detail edit pushes an illustration onto the next page, leaving a large gap.
Something I never quite got past was how often I was using the term “mass market.” I wanted to avoid repetition, and also any impression that I was looking down on it, because I don’t: I’ve spent more than half my career in it, and I do most of my shopping in it.
At the same time, I couldn’t exclude possibilities in kitchen designing just because the “sheds” might not have access to them.
Stylistically, I think I got away with it. I hope I also made the point that mass and independent retailers each have a place in the market. I mean, I can get you a bespoke range cooker, but what’s your budget?
If you buy it, drop a review on Amazon. It helps it get noticed.
