Half the job of writing is editing. In pass after pass, I removed one anecdote after another from The Heart of the Home, until only the ones I thought were essential remained.
My definition of “essential” might still be generous. I kept the one about the lady who measured her room in shoes (and didn’t bring me the shoes). Nevertheless, there are plenty I left out. Perhaps I should write about them next…
