Why so long?

I took so long to write The Heart of the Home partly because I kept finding that after ten (and then fifteen, and then twenty and twenty-five) years designing kitchens, I was still finding more things I wanted to include. Some were new to all of us – Bora venting hobs were patented only just before MFI went under – and some were new to me: I’d brushed against German kitchens in the last days at MFI, but didn’t get to work with them until three or four years later, when they were starting to transform our market.

I finished what was essentially the final draft some time last year. Thinking about the above, I sat on it for months in case I thought of anything more I’d missed. When I didn’t, I decided it must be time to publish the thing.
